I got a job!

I started my new job at a mental/physical rehab center about a week ago and it's been great! At first I was sad that I had missed my chance at the hospital job, but I'm really glad my second choice had an opening. The only full time they had was graveyards, but I'm grateful to have gotten it.
I'm getting used to working the graveyard shift faster than I thought I would. The first few days I was a zombie and I was so tired I felt nauseous and dizzy. I could only catch 2-3 hours of sleep and it was miserable. My husband drove me for the first few days until I was more accustomed to the shift. I really appreciated that (he probably kept me from squishing myself and others) and now I'm able to sleep an almost normal number of hours in a row and I'm feeling better.
I'm really enjoying getting to know my patients and the other staff there are really helpful. I haven't gotten my access card yet so anytime I need to use the loo or get supplies I have to get someone to let me in. No one has complained or refused me yet and they help me when I ask. I wish the training period was more than 3 days so I could learn the unit better and have my card before I'm on my own, but that's what school was for. I think it's going well though.
I hope I will be happy there and it feels really good to be out in the world again.

It's starting to bloom!

I got the home healthcare job!

Today was my first official day of training with the home healthcare agency. I'm so excited to be chosen!
Today I got fingerprinted for the first time ever! It was messy and a bit surreal, the ink is very slimy feeling.
We got to meet the owner and most of the office staff and they all seem like great people. I'm really excited to be working with them! They really made me feel welcome and wanted. This is a great first step in my goal to becoming a nurse. I still laugh at myself for fighting it for so long.
I also got a call from the hospital job today. He seemed a bit put out that I had found another job, but I told him I could do both and he said he'd get back to me. I'm not sure he will and I wouldn't blame him if he doesn't call, I just couldn't wait for a maybe. I need a job to pay for school and this one is actually in hands on healthcare. I feel a little sad about it though. After all, a month ago it was my dream job and I would still love to have it and be back in the hospital.
When I found out I hadn't gotten it the first time it made me reevaluate my life and my priorities.
Today's lessons were about how to give a bed bath and do peri care. We also learned a lot about communication and how to spot the signs of abuse and scammers. I'm hoping my odd assortment of hobbies and skills makes it easier for me to have something in common with my clients. It would be really cool to learn some new tricks with my Singer 66 or gain new knowledge about obscure pipes. Maybe I'll get a crocheter and we can sit and hook together while we talk. I can't wait to get out in the field and start getting some hands on experience!
The agency has the coolest sock dummy named Buddy. It was fun to watch it flop on the bed as it was gently turned and the sheets were changed. It was a lot more realistic than it should have been. Whoever made Buddy is a true artist. Sadly, I can't take pics there for confidentiality reasons. He is really cool. I might have to try and copy his pattern so I can have one...
We got to watch a video about how to do a bed bath on a client. It was boring , but mildly educational when suddenly it got to the privates washing part. It suddenly went from a real person draped modestly and helping her aide with the process to very graphic and up close drawings of the human nether regions. It was such a shock I almost laughed out loud like a kid, but up until then it had been very PG. I learned a lot after that.
I'm so grateful I got this job and I'm already learning a lot. I'm excited to see what I learn tomorrow.
In a mere 13 days I start school! I'm so excited! I can't wait to begin. Don't forget about my fundraiser!
In the meantime here's a cute Rory picture from last night. He really loves his free space time!

I Now Have A Client!

I signed my first client yesterday afternoon and it was great! They have the most interesting items for sale, it's like nothing I've ever seen before. They are Anywhere Tactical and they make break down mats that can be used anywhere! I'm going to find out which one to get my brother for Christmas. They brought in samples and these things are really heavy duty. I can't wait to help their business grow! They are also a very nice family and I really enjoyed meeting them and can't wait to see them again! I'm so happy! My first client is great!
It's exciting to be an actual agent now working with Helix House Internet Marketing Agency. The more I learn and study the more I realize that I can really help others live and grow their dreams. We get their name out there and get them exposure that they can't get for themselves. It's a great feeling to finally find a way I can help others without hurting myself. I'm really grateful to have this opportunity.
In photography news I have some photos up in Artworx Studio. I think it would be great to sell a few and if you're in the Tucson, AZ area check them out. As soon as I know when the show officially opens I'm inviting the office to come see, but they're hanging now.
Life is exciting and I can't believe how fast it's moving. It's a really wild ride!
Here's some shots we took at this years Mosey For Mutts. My husband and I were honored to be invited to shoot it! It was great!

No Sale BUT...

I got a second appointment! He wants to learn more about what we do and he seems very interested! I see him again next Wednesday! My manager was really great about showing me what I needed to do and it really helped me feel more comfortable. I can't wait for the next meeting!

Today is My First Appointment!

Today I get to go out for my first appt. I'm so excited! I hope it goes really well and I can get my first client! Wish me luck!
So far the new job is going well, it's a lot of calling and people saying no though. Yesterday I got two more appts scheduled though so I'm doing great! I just hope I can make them into clients. It's all so new and exciting! I'm really glad I chose this over nasty salon. This is a real adventure.
Now it's back to research so I'm ready for this afternoon!
The future is wide open!

I Got An Appointment

Today was my last day of training and my first day on the phone. We were also having a calling compitition. It was great! I got my first appointment and I won a round in the compitition! I kind of think the others let me win, but the appointment was all me. I feel great, but very tired. I can't wait for Monday!
I've prettied up my cubby hole! Matilda the shamrock likes it there too!

Today Was Hilarious!

I picked out my cubicle today. It's so cute and I can't wait to personalize it a bit. It's not mine per say, but it is where I'll spend a lot of my time and it needs a little help. They even swapped out keyboards for me because I didn't like the one it came with. What can I say, I'm picky. ;)
I finally got to make calls today and it was fun and crazy. We were all in the conference room and the others went first to show me how it's done. The did a great job so when my turn came I thought it would be easy. After all I had practiced and researched so I knew my stuff. Hahahahahahahahaha
I started off strong and thought I was doing ok but then I would forget my script. Or someone behind me would say something and I'd pay attention to them instead and get a no. It was hilarious. I'm looking forward to doing it again tommorrow!
My main problems were remembering where we were located and freezing up, and hearing talking behind me and freezing up. I also need a lot more practice on my script.
Tommorrow we're having a competition to see who can make the most calls. I'll win because of all my hang ups!
Here's a pic of my bare little cubby hole! Isn't it cute?

Today I Learn The Phones!

Today I get to learn the phones and I'm a bit worried. I've practiced a lot, but when I try to do it without the paper my brain goes blank. I'm also worried I'll sound to high pitched and little girly. When I practiced into my recorder I sounded like I was 10! I want to sound like an adult dang it! It'll be a lot of fun though and I'm excited to get started. Wish me luck please!

Training Day 2

Day 2 was just as educational as day 1. I'm learning so much and I really like the people there. If the Nasty Salon Lady ever calls me back I'm turning down that job!
When I got in there were donuts! The leader even likes the same type I do. Chocolate filled is the best! It's like I was meant to work there.
Yesterday we went over goals and what I hope to achieve with the company. I found out that I want a lot more than I've been aiming for so far in life. It was an eye opening experience. I agreed to come in 5 days a week through October so I could really get a handle on it. I like this place so much so far that I'm willing to let the house slide a bit and the photography take a back burner for now! My writing of course will stay on schedule. I really feel like I can grow here. It's definitely an adventure!
I really think I'll fit in at Helix House! So far I like it enough to link to it so that says a lot. I'm excited to see what I'm learning today and I can't wait to get on the phones and start making calls and getting accounts! Sadly that's not until next week.
