And the wait goes on.....

I'm still waiting on State Board for my number and it's driving me crazy. They say I need better fingerprints and they sent the packet on the 3rd. It's the 5th and it should have been here today if they had sent it that day, but it's not. This is after they sat on the unusable prints for a month or so. I really wish I knew what was going on there. I just have to keep being patient though, there's nothing else I can do. I have no power to make it go faster or better. I am at the mercy of the slow bureaucracy. Hopefully it will be in my box tomorrow and I can get it sent back fast.
On the plus side, my school is being really supportive and even tried to get the place I want to work to take me on without my number. It didn't work, but I appreciate the try. It also let me know that they still want me once this is done. It's good to be wanted! I'm also getting a good amount of writing done while I wait. I've been told that what I really want to do is a bad idea, and not very nice, so I'm making do the best I can.
I'm sure this will be over soon and I will once again be a useful member of society. Until then I'm hitting the ice cream!
Have fun!

I'm on Kindle!

My story is now on Kindle! It makes me so happy to see it there! Starting tomorrow it will be free in eBook form through Christmas Eve! I'd love for you all to download it and let me know what you think. Now it's back to working on the novel!

It's been a busy, good week

I finally completed the Comparative Religion class I've been taking and turned in my essay. I was a little worried because it took me so long. It was a go at your own pace online class, but I'm sure there is a limit to how long they would have waited.  For a writer I really have issues turning things in in a timely manner. Well I passed, and in the mail on Thursday was this beautiful certificate! Now I just have to figure out which class to take next.
It's so shiny!
Yesterday was my 10 year anniversary so to celebrate I ordered dinner in. I had it delivered from Brother's Noodles and it was as good as I remembered. They don't usually deliver to my area, nothing but pizza will, but I pulled the sympathy and large tip card and they were more than happy to bring it over. I really loved the Kung Pao chicken, it had just the right amount of heat and the vegis in it were still nice and crisp.

Kung Pao Chicken
The Mongolian beef was a bit bland, so I broke out my squeezie garlic and that really brought it to life. They did get the heat factor spot on though. I'd never had it with bell peppers and it really adds a good dimension to it. What I really want to know though is how they get the rice to be sticky, but not slimy. It's the perfect texture and firmness. Whoever does their cooking is really great!

The rest of the evening was spent watching cheesy Netflix and relaxing. All in all it was a good day.

On the writing front I'm still on schedule to self-publish at the end of this month. I'm so excited! Although it would be nice if the monsters I live with would leave me be for more than 5 minutes. Somebody is always yelling at the door, but the worst are the strange crashing sounds that you go to investigate. There is never anything out of place when you go look. It's weird.
On the running front I'm redoing Zombies, Run 5k week one again next week. My knee is still a bit annoyed, but I think it's coming around. Or maybe it's just giving up the battle. I plan to keep taking it slow though. I kind of like this running and I don't want to not be able to walk.
Have fun!

The Proof Reader Liked It!

Just got word back that the proof reader I sent a short story to likes it and with one minor edit it is sellable!
Tonight I'll fix the small issue and then send it out for an anthology I hope to get published in. If it gets chosen it'll be my first (in a looong line) of publishing credits!
I'm so stoked and I really hope it gets picked. I also plan to send in a couple more just to pad the odds in my favor.
This is great!!!!
I won't know until Sep. or Oct. if I get picked, but the fact that I'm even trying after all these years is a win!
Ginger and Princess have faith and so do I!

My new office!

This is my new office. It's in a corner of the bedroom so the animals can't bug me. It may be small but the rent is free and I have everything I need. I'm just glad my desk fits.
That desk is the first furniture purchase I ever made on my own. It's over a hundred years old and I'm the third owner. It even has its original key so it locks. I got it from a nice lady who was moving to Texas and didn't want to take much with her. She wanted to be more mobile.
Yes that's a signed pic of Angela Landsbury above. When I was little I wanted to be Jessica Fletcher. I still do even though my mysteries have a supernatural element.
I'm sad I gave up my salon, but I'm lucky Z is giving me the space to do what I've always wanted. Life is a give and take.

I killed my shredder

Last night while disposing of old checks to an account I closed I killed my shredder. It made the most horrible noise, a cross between bad brakes and a lion roar and wouldn't go any more. That shredder had been with me for over two years. It faithfully ate everything I fed it and happily growled for more. I killed it by over feeding it.
Now it sits in the trash can to be recycled. It was a good and faithful friend who destroyed my mistakes and obliterated my junk mail.
It will be missed.

Another day at Slivers Salon...

(Warning: Shameless Whining and Self Promotion Ahead)

Today is another slow day at the salon. I'm grateful to have the time to write until my hand cramps and my thumb falls asleep, but I need more clients to come in. On the plus side I'm way ahead of schedule on the first draft and need to figure out how to install word on a computer with no disk drive. I wonder if any place rents them. I love writing long hand, but I'll be glad when I can start typing it up and changing things a bit.
I'm such a whiner. I'm living the life of my dreams and acting like a full-time writer. It's exactly what I asked for when I told my husband I wanted to quit my job at the hospital and stay home to write. He said no so I went to cosmetology school. The only job I could get after school was part-time at CC and I was grateful until the corporate crap chased me off. Now I'm living the dream I've always had and I'm still not satisfied . Of course in my version there was no $237 a week rent to wrangle up.

My desk rocks!
All I need is five clients a day and I will be set. So if you know anyone in Tucson who needs a cut, color, or facial wax send them my way and I promise to be nice.

Now I need a butt in my chair please!

Life Moves at an Amazing Pace!

I can't believe that my salon has been open for a full five months. It feels like I just opened. On the one hand I can't believe I've managed to last this long and I thank Goddess every day for hanging in there with me. On the other hand I keep wondering when I'll have people lining up to get their hair done by me. I know it takes at least a year to get going really strong and I haven't even been open half that, but patience has never been my virtue. It's coming though; this is the first week ever I've had at least one person scheduled every day and that feels great!
On the flip side my writing is coming along so well I love it. I finally have a relatively quiet place with no animals crawling all over to just write for hours and it's a dream come true. If I keep this pace up I'll be down with the first draft by the end of October. Then I can start putting it into the computer and that's always one of my favorite parts.
I just wish I could slow time down somehow to really savor this time.
