The Second Ride

I took the pedals off another bike and put them on Lucy so my shoes won't slip. I've always liked these pedals a lot but the bike i had then on was too tall for me, even though I rode it for 10 years before I got Lucy. Her name is Zipper and I still love her, but rarely ride her.

Don't they look nice!

Today's ride was not as nice as yesterday's. The weather was beautiful, the birds were singing, the sun was shining through the clouds in a nice hazy way. It was picture perfect out, a great day.

Nice and hazy! I see fingers!

Great big tree! I wish the sunrise came out better.

But my butt hurts. As soon as it touched the saddle I wanted off. Hard to believe that the short ride yesterday was the cause but it was. I was all over the seat today trying to get comfortable and after a mile I gave up. Now it hurts just to sit on a chair so I must be doing something right.
I plan to do it again tomorrow with hopefully better results.
Come payday I'm ordering a saddle that will hopefully work. It's the Terry Liberator X. It's got to be better than the 5 year old Bell saddle from Walmart I'm using now. Until then I'm going for the pain.
The feeling of freedom is to good to give up just because my butt hurts. Besides if I can't sit down I may get more housework done. It's a win win.

  1. Enjoyed the 'ride'. I know what you mean about the seats. I quit riding my bike because of loose dogs in the area. I hate that! Any suggestions?

    1. There are loose dogs here and they can be a pain. I used to deal with them a lot when I was riding before. Here's some of my techniques that worked.
      1. If the dog is chasing you, not acting aggressive, stop and get the bike between you. That way it has nothing to chase and should go home. If it doesn't wander off yell and make noise. Shake the bike and act scary.
      2. If it is aggressive and you can't out run it get your back to a wall and the bike between you. Squirt it in the face with your bottle and yell. I like to yell "GO HOME!" at the top of my lungs. "FIRE" will also get people out, but tends to piss them off. If you have to swing the bike at it to make it back off, just don't hit the dog as it could damage the bike. If you have to hit it use your lock or chain. Most dogs won't get that close anyway.
      3. if it charges you from the front swerve to avoid while yelling at it. If it chases get off and make noise. Try not to hit the dog because that hurts everybody and crashing sucks.
Most dogs will chase you for about a block then get bored and go home. I've had them slow down to match my speed and look sad when I stopped. They just want to run. It's only if they are acting scary or follow for more than 2 blocks that I bother with them.

Once you get home, if the dog was aggressive report it and if you know where it lives report the owner too. It's a territory thing. I've had bad luck talking to the owners face to face, but maybe your neighborhood is better.
Good luck! I hope this helps!

    1. Thank you for being inspired! It's slow going to start. I used to watch Xena and Bones when I had my stationary. That was fun.
